Raya in Sabah
|
|
Sungguh kesian. Looks like my 'Trip To Kuching' entry was abandoned (by me). Anyways, later when I rajin-rajin I'll update la that entry ok.
This year Khairul and I celebrated our 1st day of raya in KK. We always love going back to KK. The whole family went back to Kudat on the third day of raya.
Here's a picture taken from one of the floating restaurants at the Sidek Esplanade.
A relative of my dad told him he has a kedai makan near the esplanade. My dad asked him what's the name of his kedai makan. He answered "kedai serve no pork". And it wasn't a joke. Jajal btul oh!
Here's a picture of people waiting for boats to take them back to Pulau Gaya in KK slightly before sunset.

During the day while I was working, Khairul went touring around the small Kuching town.
Later in the evening, we took a sampan to Kampung Boyan just across the Sungai Sarawak for dinner at this restaurant called My Village Baruk. We saw an article on this restaurant in the Sarawak Tourism Magazine at the Kuching Airport.
Most part of the restaurant was built on pokok pinang trunk. The ambient was quite romantic. Really nice. But I couldn't understand why they played a traditional Javanese music. Sarawak also has got some really nice traditional music what? The waiters were slow moving. And the food only came 30 or 40 minutes later. And didn't taste that good either. Mahal lagi tuh. Oh well.
Kampung Boyan is a Malay village on the other side of the river. They got some really nice Malay houses there. Quite different than those Malay houses we have in Sabah. Cantik! They have shorter tiangs, which is unlike those tinggi-tinggi ones in Sabah. I heard there are more nice Malay houses along Jln Datuk Ajibah Abol but unfortunately we didn't have much time to make a visit there.
Kampung Boyan across the Sarawak River. My Village Baruk is the first attap house to the right of the jetty (you see the jetty at the leftmost).
We went back at 9.00pm. On our way back we came across this kedai and I immediately thought of Karmilla .

Syioknya! I was sent to Kuching for 5 days for some work, so I dragged Khairul along for our second honeymoon. Hee hee heeee
Initially I booked for a room at the Grand Continental since most of the other hotels were fully booked. But we were lucky. On the way to KLIA I called Holiday Inn Kuching and managed to grab a Deluxe twin room. Lucky! Lucky!
When we arrived Kuching was drizzling. There was a Pertandingan Memancing Udang at the Kuching Waterfront. We walked all the way up to Masjid Kuching.
Just before Masjid Kuching is the Brooke Dockyard. It was opened by Vyner Brooke. According to Ranee Sylvia while Brooke was nervously giving out his speech, the Malays and Chinese weren't even listening. Instead they all macam jakunss celebrating the event sambil terjun ke dalam Sungai Sarawak dan mandi-manda. Funny oh!
By the end of the day I was totally exhausted, but amazingly, Khairul wasn't tired at all. I guess all the walkings during the bad times when our car broke down for 3 months before the wedding did some good for him.

My (Belated) Birthday Treat
|
|
Khairul cooked dinner as a birthday treat for me. Syioknyaa dat!
Initially he had wanted to take me out to an expensive, romantic dinner. Tapi, with such little money that we have, instead of the expensive dinner I just asked him to cook dinner for me. Lagipun he already took me to Colmar Tropicale over the weekend. And hundreds were spent on poor Itam (http://farrahar.blogspot.com/2006_09_01_farrahar_archive.html). Plus, we'll be spending more on something else very, very soon!
Prior to the dinner, I said to him "NO TOM YAM pleasee..." cos I'm through and done with all kinds of tomyam. He's such a tomyam freak. 8 tomyam years together with him is enuf to drive me nutsssesss!
I was expecting something simple for the dinner. Like ayam goreng and sayur or something like that. Cooking paling grand I could think of pun would be asam pedas.
It was such a pleasant surprise when I got home from work that day to find out that he actually cooked Nasi Tomato, Ayam Masak Merah and Udang Goreng Tepung! Yummy! It never crossed my mind at all. I printed out the nasi tomato recipe 3 weeks ago, planning for a weekend lunch treat. Unfortunately I couldn't find a suitable time for that since we've been going out every weekend.
Kalau selalu birthday kan best....
Thanks for the dinner darling muahss muahssss muahhhsssss!!!!!

Colmar Tropicale - Day 2
|
|
After breakfast we took a lottle walk round the place. Colmar Tropicale is just a small place. Then we went back to our room for a short rest before the noon checkout.
After checkout we took the shuttle to the Japanese Garden for a 1-hour day trekking. Then we went to the Rabbit Farm for a minutes before we headed back home.
We just couldn't stop thinking about Cici and the new kid all alone at home. Khairul was driving sleepily I had to pinch him again and again in the neck. He was so sleepy that I decided to pour water over his head. That really helped .
We stopped by at California Pizza Kitchen@Suria KLCC to have some seafood pizza.
I managed to persuade Khairul to make a turn to that one kedai selling oven cap Butterfly although I knew I that it's closed on Sundays .
Thanks for the nice trip Sayang!

Colmar Tropicale - Day 1
|
|
Here we are at Colmar Tropicale.
I can say this would be our first honeymoon . This would also be our third month anniversary since it was exactly 3 months after the day Khairul and I was was officially husband and wife . Also, this would also be a birthday gift from Khairul to me . All 3-in-1.
The place was quite a nice place for a short gate away. A mere 40 minutes drive from KL. Up near Genting Highlands. The room was soo honeymoonish, with bed posts and all. The dinner buffet was ok-ok-lah. There was a band playing outside at the terrace, with the singer singing romantic jazzy songs. I love!
I felt so bloated after dinner. Probably because too much of tea. I felt so bloated I had to sit down. Outside, they put some chairs for a stage show. I couldn't tahan so I just sat on the front row chair. Little did I know show was about to start and everybody started taking their seats when they saw me there.
The show started with 2 guys and a girl wearing weird costumes in zebra stripes dancing to a chinese techno song. I felt like I was in Taiwan. I couldn't stop laughing at them. Later each of them took a flag, one with a letter M, the second with Y and the last with X. Then they start swinging the flags just like in a march-past. Turned out it was the name of their group - MYX.
Then the 'lambada' dance by 3 girls. They should've put on some few fruits on top of their heads hehehehe..
Then the rodeo dance. This one funny like bodo. One guy became kepala kuda, the other guy became badan kuda, the girl became the cowgirl. Then they main kuda-kuda for 1 or 2 rounds on the stage with the girl doing rodeo actions. Funny gila oo!!
Then the bollywood dance. This was everyone's favorite. The girl in green danced quite well. The two in red, one was stiff I was afraid she'd break her neck, the other one danced macam stone - muka tiada perasaan.
I don't remember the rest of the tarians. I couldn't believe we stayed through out the show.
At the end of the show, they asked us audience to volunteer to come up to the stage to dance with them. Nobody responded. Then they started picking out people. Khairul and I started to pretend looking busy with our new camera. I swear if they were to pick me I would've told them straight I was 1-month pregnant. Seriously I would!!! Hahahahaha. To our relieves they only picked out the kiddies.
The last part of the show was "OK anybody wants to take picture with MYX you may come up to the stage now. Come on! Don't be shy!". Nobody responded. I started thinking "Siapa laaa mau ambil gambar sama diorang ni?!". To my horror one of the male dancers turned to look at me, smiled, reach out his hands to me, and said "Come lahh let take picture..!". The other dancers "Come lah! Come lah!". What????!!!! Why me??!! Khairul "Pigi lah! Pigi lah!". Ndak guna!! Everybody was looking at me. Slowly, reluctantly, I got up, took his hands, stepped onto the stage, and............... siiigghhhhhh ....... took picture with them. Benci aku!!!!!!
Amazingly, right after I got down from the stage, there were some other people coming up to the stage to take pictures with the group.
After the show, we went around for a little walk before we finally called it a day.
